Responding with simplicity and grace to the subtle undulating forms found skirting western Mono Lake, my aim was to capture the movement of these mountains. I spend much of each summer camping and painting here using original color that speaks of my adoration of the scene. I call it my “heart place.” The steep Sierra Nevada escarpment seen from Mono Lake rises above the high desert floor to bring great drama to this scene. This painting was done as a demo while teaching a watercolor class for The Mono Lake Committee. I lived one very cold winter here in a rustic cabin.
